What Causes Pain On Both Sides Of The Roof Of The Mouth?

Hello, I am suffering two nights in a row now with dull constant pain on both sides of the roof of my mouth where the hard palate meets the soft palate. I am not experiencing any symptoms except for this which usually indicate a nasal drip that leads to sinusitis or bronchitus. This pain is more like strep throat except it is too high. Swallowing foods that have to be chewed seems to be what triggers the pain but then it lasts for hours. Last night I took alka-seltzer because I could not locate any ibuprofen or tylenol in my medicine cabinet and I had suffered long enough. The pain subsided and was not present this morning or afternoon. This evening after eating I experienced the same pain. It is now midnight and it still hurts. No appearance of anything and the sore areas feel smooth and maybe slightly raised when I examine them with my tongue. The ache is also in my jaw muscles and ears. Help.
