Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain On The Upper Right Arm Where The PICC Line Is Inserted?
Last July I had a lumpectomy and they removed three lymph nodes from my left side. In October, I had. A PICC line inserted in my right arm a few days. I have been experiencing pain/ burning on the upper part of my right arm since the PICC line. It tends to get worse at night especially if I sleep on that side. Any thoughts? Thank you!
I have gone through your query. In your case PICC line was most probably inserted for chemotherapy. Since you started having pain and burning sensation after the line, it is a complication of PICC. It usually causes Phlebitis, hemorrhage, thrombosis or infection. You may have Phlebitis and thrombosis. Ointment thrombophob can be applied over it along with NSAIDs like ibuprofen.
