What Causes Palpitations After Taking Aleve?

My grandmother had surgery yesterday for a torn miniscus. She took two aleve at 9pm. Woke up a few minutes ago saying that she feels like her heart is racing. She is 70 yrs old but in pretty good health. Is there anything that we can do to counteract the affects so aleve? She was wanting to stop taking the script for pain mess and go with something over the counter? What should we do?

Hello,
Aleve (Naproxen) is a NSAID indicated as an analgesic agent(pain relief medication), for various medical illness.
Usual dose is 500mg BD.
Naproxen has various side effects like GI disturbances, Cardiac ,Renal problems etc.
As per your history your grand mother took two tablets of aleve, following which she developed palpitations.
This might be a rare cause of Naproxen induced palpitation but your grandma needs a cardiac consultation & examination done with an ECG.
But you have to be careful taking NAPROXEN (ALEVE) tablet next time as you cannot take two tablets at a time.
Therefore as of now have a cardiac consultation & in case of pain continue with Aleve 500 mg one tablet.
Best regards
