What Causes Palpitations And Numbness In The Arm?

my 81 yr old mother was holding her chest a few hours ago and said she was having strong palpitations i took her blood pressure and it was 113 over 112 her pulse was 124, she went to lie down and complained of numbness in her left lower arm but says it has eased off now, is this serious

Regarding your concern, I would explain that her symptoms seem to be related to cardiac arrhythmia.

Coronary artery disease (myocardial ischemia can not be excluded either).

For this reason, I would recommend bringing her to the ER for a careful physical exam and some tests:

- a resting ECG and cardiac enzymes
- a chest X ray study
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- kidney and liver function tests.

Meanwhile, I recommend you to closely monitor her blood pressure values.
