What Causes Pregnancy Symptoms While Taking Contraceptive?
Hi, I have been taking the contraceptive pill microgynon 30 now for just over 7 years. I havent had a normal withdrawel bleed this month. I would normally bleed for 5 days but I only have some light brown discharge but really bad cramps and backache. I havent missed any pills so there is no chance of pregnancy!?
First, you should know that there is no form of hormonal birth control that is 100% effective. For this reason, you need to check a pregnancy test.
That being said, if you have taken the pill regularly, the chance of pregnancy is extremely low.
In addition, the pill also causes your cycles to become lighter over time. In some cases, this leads to minimal bleeding or just brown discharge.
But given the seven years of no problems, and now problems related to abnormal discharge and pain, you really need to be seen by your Primary Provider to make sure something else is not going on.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Timothy Raichle, OBGYN
