Hi, Eosinophilic skin diseases, commonly known as eosinophilic dermatoses, is a broad spectrum of diseases, characterized by eosinophilic infiltration in skin lesions with or without blood eosinophilia. Majority of these diseases lie in the allergy related groups such as allergic drug eruptions, urticaria, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis and eczema. Also some types of eosinophilic dermatoses with unknown origin are also there with involvement of specific type of layers or adnexal structures of skin like dermis, subcutaneous fat, fascia, follicles and cutaneous vessels etc. This is a vast spectrum with variable symptoms and manifestations. Parasitic infections and very rarely HIV and certain types of malignancies also can cause such type of presentations. Hence, if a proper diagnosis becomes possible, then treatment of the cause is always required. But, by and large, as the etiology is not known and these usually cover a large spectrum related to allergies most of the times, hence treatment with oral anti-allergic or local application of low dose hydrocortisone etc. will be able to relieve the symptoms. Many a times, these conditions subside themselves with time of their own. However, in some cases, where the symptoms become more intense and agonizing, extensive investigations may be required under guidance of a dermatologist with mixed results. Take care.
