What Causes Recurring High Fevers?

My 9 year old has had high fevers since birth...105.8 being the worst...but the last couple of months he runs a fever around 103 then after Motrin or Tylenol he sweats profusely, is clammy, pale, and has a temp around 96.5 for usually 3-5 hours. He had bloodwork last month at the er when this happened...nothing showed...but they gave him fluids for dehydration...should I be worried that something serious is going on?

Hello!
I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
In the way you describe it,I think that your son might have a condition that makes him susceptible to infection leading in recurrent temperature.

In children a probably cause for repetitive temperature is Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) which is an abnormal movement of urine from the bladder into ureters or kidneys. Urine normally travels from the kidneys via the ureters to the bladder. In vesicoureteral reflux the direction of urine flow is reversed (retrograde).
The diagnosis require a number of studies such as Urianalysis to confirm infection and imaging studies such as voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG), IVP, renal scan or renal sonogram.

-Several autoinflammatory conditions can cause recurring fevers. Some are hereditary, and others occur without a family history. Some examples include familial Mediterranean fever, PAPA syndrome, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and Crohn's disease.Your child's doctor can diagnose these conditions by taking a careful medical history -- including a family medical history in the case of hereditary conditions -- blood and urine testing, and by noting symptoms associated with the recurrent fevers.

I suggest to consult a pediatrician to explore these possible causes and find out the right one.Is important to do some studies to find out what is going because having fever since birth is not normal foe a healthy child.

Hope I was able to help.
Take care.
