There has been a sudden onset of nerve hypersensitivity to all regions of the body following a fall due to syncope with a possible mild concussion to the frontal region of the brain. My family member was in the floor for several hours before being found. EMS was called and it was then that the severe generalized pain to the entire body was noted. Other symptoms include: burning, tingling and numbness to the extremities, severe generalized weakness, muscle wasting, unsteady gait, loss of balance, insomnia, bladder and bowel incontinence. An EMG was done and showed bilat carpel tunnel and decreased innervation at the L5 level. Xrays demonstrated spinal stenosis. An MRI has not been done due to an implanted pacemaker.
My family member utilizes the VA for his health care. One physician recommended Lyrica but that was overriden by another physician without a reason given.
What could possibly cause this severe all over nerve pain and weakness? What possible diagnoses should we suggest be investigated?
