What Causes Sharp Burning Pain On The Left Side?

I have a strange feeling on my left side. It started over a year ago. I reached on my left side for something and I had this terrible burning pain and a feeling like something was out of place, like it had to shift back into place. The pain was sudden and sharp and I felt like I could pass out. I continue to have it. Sometimes nothing will happen and sometimes simply reaching to open a door will cause pain. I don't feel anything there by self examination.
