What Causes Skipped Pulse?

My pulse rate, which has typically run between high 60s and low 70s was 88 last week, and 100 (checked twice) last night. I am a regular walker so this is very unusual. However, I had burning pain in various parts of my body (eye, low back, foot, etc.) since November. Could the inflammation be causing the spiked pulse? And, if so, what can I do about it? They took blood last night to check my CRP + SED rate. Also, I am a type 2 (non-insulin) diabetic and this isn't helping matters any. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pain in various parts of the body due to unspecific reason can be because of an inflammatory condition like fibro myalgia and many other. This inflammation causes pain. When body is in pain, level of cortisol in the body increases. This cortisol is responsible for spiked pulses and can also cause elevated blood pressure at times. As levels of cortisol varies according to the spikes in level of hormone, hence pulse rate also varies. Wait for the result of your ESR and CRP. If they are raised, that means there is a inflammation inside the body.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rini
