What Causes Sneezing And Runny Nose After Waking From Sedation?

I just had an EGD done today. Prior to the procedure, I had no symptoms. After waking up from sedation, I started sneezing along with a runny nose. I ve been symtomatic ever since. Could it be a reaction to the sedative, or caused from the nasal cannula?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM!

This is Dr. Sridhar and I shall be answering your question.

I understand your problem. In all probability, the symptoms you are experiencing are due to irritation caused by the nasal cannula. The sneezing that you are experiencing is due to the protective mechanism of your body trying to expel out any foreign particles (dust) that might have got stuck in your airway while you were sedated.
There is nothing to worry. You'll be fine within a day or two.

Hope this solves your query. Feel free to ask if you have any doubt.

With regards,
Dr. Sridhar
