What Causes Stinging Sensation In Hands After Taking Levofloxacine And Omerprazole?

I am taking the triple-therapy against Helicobacter Pylori, (second line - includes Levofloxacine, Omerprazole, Moxipen). This has been my second day with the therapy, and during today, i started feeling a bit of stinging in my left hand, as if it is asleep and now im beginning to feel it in my second hand. its not severe, i can still function properly with the hands, but it worries me and annoys me. Should i continue with the therapy?

Hi,

Levofloxacin belongs to the group of antibiotic medications known as fluoroquinolone which is used in the treatment of various types of bacterial infections. Levofloxacin may lead to nerve damage in the form of peripheral neuropathy. Tingling, numbness and stinging sensation in hands and feet is an early sign of peripheral neuropathy. You may also experience burning or shooting pain. If you suffer from tingling, stinging, burning, numbness or weakness in hands or feet during taking any fluoroquinolone antibiotics like Levofloxacin, stop taking this medication abruptly and inform your doctor immediately for medical help.

Omeprazole belongs to the group of medications known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) that is used treatment for indigestion, heartburn, stomach ulcers, acid reflux etc. PPIs like Omeprazole has been reported to be associated with peripheral neuropathies in some cases. Omeprazole can also cause pins and needles, stinging, tingling or numbness in the hands and feet. If you experience such type of stinging sensation in hands or feet, then stop taking this medication immediately and inform your doctor for medical attention.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
