What Causes Terrible Sharp Pain In Throat After Tonsillectomy?
I had a tonsillectomy on the 19th, which would make today day 7 of my recovery. About day 5 I started to get this terrible sharp pain in my throat on the left side back behind my tongue. It feels like I'm being stabbed in the area where my tonsil used to be and randomly acts up. When it does act up it immediately brings tears to my eyes, that's how bad it hurts. Is this just the scab falling off? Or should I be more worried? Should I go see my doctor?
Hi, thanks for the query. Pain after tonsillectomy is common, increase from day 4 to 7 , this indicates that the scabs are sloughing off, a part of the healing process starts. It may associated with ear pain. Continue your pain relieving medication ,antiseptic mouthwash , Plenty of fluids & Vit C.
Hope above information helpful to you. If you donot get relief , ENT examination become essential. Regards - Dr KK ( Karade )
