What Causes The Baby To Have A Large Head And Stomach?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... My daughter is 36 weeks pregnant and just visited the hospital doctor who advised the baby has a large head and large belly - she is gestational diabetic and wanted to put her on insulin however she has said she will watch her diet so no insulin at the moment - would the large size be because of the diabetes or would there be something else wrong with the baby. All scans they have advised all are ok and now they say the scan on 27/1/11 show this larger size?
The large size of baby is due to diabetes. The excess glucose present in gestational diabetic is passed on to the baby and this causes the baby to get bigger than what is to be expected. She will need a close watch on her sugar levels and it is recommended that she take insulin. The last few weeks the baby can grow larger and then problems can occur during delivery. To avoid those it is necessary that her sugars are in control, and insulin will be needed for that.
Hope this helps.
