What Causes The Smell Of Smoke?

I am smelling smoke through my nostrils, especially in the evening when I am sitting quietly and when I go to bed. Can you tell me what this is about. I had uticaria sometime back after having a colonoscopy in 2010 and was on different allergy medications for it. Could that be the problem? The uticaria lasted close to 8 months.
