What Causes Upper Abdominal Pain During Pregnancy?
I have been suffering with upper abdominal pains for a few weeks and i am 9 weeks pregnant. I have been to my doctor several times and he has given me antibiotics for indigestion and stomach ulser. I still have the same pain, and i feel sick 24/7 and have lost my appetite. Is there anything else this could be? I dont know what else to do. Thanks
Unfortunately a stomach ulcer has all the symptoms you have developed and is the most likely explanation for how bad you feel. Antibiotics and antacids are the correct treatment, but being pregnant increases the amount of reflux you have which makes your symptoms worse. If you begin to vomit, if you see any blood, you need to go to the hospital as a bleeding ulcer can be dangerous.
The only good news about this is that the baby is not affected by any of this at all, even if you can't eat properly for a while, the baby will preferentially get nutrition from your body and have enough to eat.
So I hope your doctor can help you get this condition under control and that you feel better soon. Best wishes for the rest of the pregnancy, Dr. Brown
