What Could Be Cause Of Bloating After Undergoing Keyhole Surgery For Prolapse?

I have recently ( 4 weeks ago) , undergone keyhole surgery for a prolapse and also rectal repair. Even though my recovery seems to be slow, I am improving..... After having a good day - been walking about, over the last couple of hours I am experiencing a bloated/ discomfotf in my stomach. I am going to the toilet normally..... Prior to surgery my GP was treating me for IBS.....I think this may be the current cause of my bloating. What diet do you suggest that I follow to ease the symptoms?? Thank you

Hi,

You have undergone keyhole surgery for prolapse of rectum just 4 weeks ago and now have bloating or discomfort in abdomen. Since you are a known case of IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome, this may be the most probable reason for your present symptoms.

You can get started on the same tablets/ Medications for IBS under the guidance of your Doctor treating it previously. Take a PPI with Domperidone and see the results. If there is no relief then go for X-ray of abdomen to see for any obstruction as there may be kinking or so causing bloating.

Further evaluation will show the cause which needs to be treated as per the findings.
Enema may be some help if there are fecolith formation but needs to be done in hospital by a trained personnel; do not try at home.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
