What Could Be The Reason For Burning While Urinating And Spotting With Skipped Periods While Being On Birth Control Pills?

I had skipped my period by starting birth control because I became sexually active again. We used spermicide the first time and he also withdrawled before ejaculation. Also I waited about 12 days before having sex again after starting the pill. I now believe I have a bladder or kidney infection. I have extreme burning when urinating and I am experience some spotting. Now I'm on the fourth day of my sugar pills and my period still hasn't started. Usually it starts on the third or fourth day of sugar pills. I thought the blood was spotting but I'm pretty sure it's from the infection. My question is, can this bladder or kidney infection be why I haven't started my period? Could it be late since I skipped my period when I was suppose to have it? I'm planning on taking a pregnancy test tomorrow but am extremely scared I could be pregnant. Would just like to know if there is a possible other reason why it's late besides being pregnant.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this painful urination and spotting. It would be very unlikely that you are pregnant from the information you have provided. Painful urination always raises the suspicion of a UTI. I will suggest that you get consulted and evaluated for treatment of a possible UTI.

Pregnancy is the most common reason for missed periods but in so many other persons, no real cause is ever identified. Menses are not as faithful as it sounds and every woman at least once has missed the menses which were in no way related to pregnancy. A UTI is not a cause for missed periods.

I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more clarification or information if need be. I wish you well.
