What Could Be The Reason For The Sudden Increase In The Weight And Not Able To Reduce Whatever I Do And On Thyroid Tablets?
Hi, it doesn't matter what I do I can't seem to lose weight. Having said that when and if I do I don't put it back on quickly. My Dr. put me on thyroid tablets and I lost 10 kgs. and after about six months (still on tablets) walking, and watching what I eat not a kg. has moved. I am 71 yrs. young, mow my own lawns, weed garden and am active. Never had a weight issue when young, parents very slim but I have had a lot of stress in my life for about 15 yrs. Still I absolutely hate being 97 kgs. when I never got over 10 1/2 stone up to the age of 55.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Hypothyroidism is one of the diseases which is associated with weight gain. As you have mentioned that your doctor has prescribed tablets for thyroid disease, it suggests that you are suffering from hypothyroidism. Have you undertaken thyroid function tests (TFTs). After taking the medication for thyroid, the TFTs should come back to normal value. If not, you need to consult your treating doctor for change in dose or medicine. If the weight gain is due to hypothyroidism, it is unlikely that you will loose by any other means. Thyroid medication will be required.
