What Could Be The Risks For Not Undergoing A Surgery After Finger Fracture?

I need a second opinion.. While playing I broke my finger and there is a fracture. the hand specialist is suggesting a surgery > I want to know the future risks of not going in for surgery. Per doctor, the fracture might heal.. however the joints have been moved(sorry dont remember the actual term). Please suggest!
