What Could Be The Treatment For Rib Fracture, Sore Back Due To A Fall, Tylenol With Codeine Did Not Help?

Fell 4 days ago and didn't feel much pain upon awakening the next morning was stiff and sore in my back along the rib area. Worked the next day and was in a lot of pain bending and reaching had a difficult time sleeping. Upon awakening the following morning day 3 was in such pain that getting out of bed was painful, walking up the stairs to the bathroom had me almost down on my knees because of the pain and spasms. Went to ER where I had x rays taken, when asked to raise my arms above my head again the pain radiated to the point I felt I was going to pass out, almost falling to my knees. Called ER today to find out about rib fracture(pain is radiating on my right side in the back of my ribs to the front of my ribs under bra line) the dr told me they found no breaks in my ribs but a spot on my lower lung on the right side. Was given tylenol with codeine for pain relief but it hasn't helped at all. Just wondering what exactly this is?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

As per your history of trauma there is possibility of rib contusion or fracture.
Rib contusion is not always visible on X ray . If required you may need to do HRCT to see details of injury.
If there is lung injury then there will be increasing pain with every breath.
I will advise to consult to orthopaedic surgeon.

Medication like muscle relaxant and analgesic will reduce pain along with it use rib support belt.
You may consult physiotherapist for pain management. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.
You may need to take rest for early healing.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
