What Could Cause Pain Right Above Hip ?

I have experienced pain right above my hip right side. Don't think it is kidneys. Pain is localized to hip/lower back area.
Periodically pain shoots towards center of back and it started last Thursday but has not gone away but has deminished....but not gone away

Thanks for posting on HCM,

You maybe experiencing osteoarthritis of lumbar spine or hip-joint. It will be proper to do an x-ray of the hip or a CT scan.
You should also envisage paying a visit to a doctor who can take a proper look.
There is always the possibility of a referred pain due to an affected nearby structure which might not even be bone. That is why, I recommend you see a doctor first before we can draw any tangible conclusions.
