What Could Positive Pregnancy Test With US Showing Empty Gestational Sac With Increased HCG Levels Indicate?
Hi, I recently found out that I am pregnant. Based on my calculations I'm 4 weeks pregnant. At about 3 weeks pregnant I had a gush of pink tinged fluid followed by bright red blood for about 4 days. I have been spotting daily. I went to the OB and pregnancy was confirmed. A transvaginal ultrasound however shows an empty gestational sac. My HCG level is around 22191. It was 21182, 2 days ago. What could be happening?
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
If I were your family physician, I would have referred you to your obstetrician for a definite opinion on it. However, this means a blighted ovum, that is a gestational sac only without any live fetus in it. In this condition the serum HCG will go on rising giving some false impressions. Further management would depend on the decision of your obstetrician with whom you should take an appointment.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts. Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
