Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father has been taking warfarin for approximately a month for atria fibrillation. His assisted living provider is asking us to replenish his low dose aspirin supply. prior to being diagnosed with AF he was taking a lose dose supply of aspirin...this request sends up a red flag for me! What do you think?
Both Aspirin and Warfarin are blood thinners. Current treatment of atrial fibrillation includes low dose aspirin (81 mg) and warfarin. So, if he is taking both then that is appropriate. If he is taking a full dose (325 mg aspirin), I would recommend talking to a cardiologist as full dose aspirin when taken with warfarin increases the risk of bleeding.
Please let me know if that was helpful. If it was, please take a moment to provide a rating. Thanks!
