What Does 3 Cm Mass In Stomach Suggest?

My dad has a large ~3cm round/hard mass in his stomach. His stomach was bleeding, and therefore was really low on potassium, but his blood pressure and everything is back to normal now. However, the doctors just sent a letter saying he needs surgery. I want to know if this is serious. He was in so much pain before, because he lost so much blood. He also had black stool twice, and was vomiting. Also, what is 789.06- ABDMNAL PAIN EPIGASTRIC?

Hi! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

From the history of bleeding and a mass in the stomach, the chances of the stomach harbouring a malignant mass (needs a histo pathology examination of the tissue to confirm) becomes high, and so the doctors treating him might have advised him for a surgery. As your doctors have examined him physically and must have performed investigations before arriving at the decision to operate, I think they are the best judge, and so you should go with their advice, otherwise the mass may bleed more resulting in more blood loss. The provisional documented diagnosis is abdominal pain and region is epigastric part of the abdomen and the number 789.06 could be some kind of registration or reference number of the hospital where he was treated.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your father's problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on the health problems. I wish your father an early relief. Dr Shareef.
