What Does Anomalous Origin Of Left Main Coronary Artery From Right Sinus Of Valsalva Indicate?
I need an explanation of Anomalous origin of Left Main Coronary Artery from Right Sinus of Valsalva in layman terms. Is the artery pinched or is it due to the blood flow going to the wrong place? What causes the heart to fail? This question concerns a friends that lost a child age 13 to this.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The condition that you have mentioned is a structural abnormality. Left coronary artery normally arises from left sinus of valsalva and it supplies oxygenated blood to majority of heart. Right coronary artery normally arises from left sinus of valsalva and supplies smaller part of heart as compared to left coronary artery. Thus, left coronary artery is arising from wrong place. This structural abnormality can affect the supply of oxygenated blood to the heart. The functional impact of this anomaly will be decided by the presence or absence of other structural anomalies.
