What Does CT Scan Of Bowel As Small Bowel Loops With Abdominal Wall Hernia Indicate?

I have had a ct scan of my small bowel due to my sigmoid colon has been removed except about 4 inches left. The CT scan shows small bowel loops,& a wide mouth ventral abdominal wall hernia. & also noted Hepatic Steatosis.They did note no bowel obstruction or free intraperitoneal air. I wasn t explained what all this means. I am worried. Can you help?? I have been referred to a surgeon.

Thanks for writing in.

Liver steatosis is fat accumulation and can be seen in many people in the normal population. Unless associated with any other medical condition, it is acceptable.

There is opening up of the inner part of the anterior abdominal wall at surgical site causing the small bowel to herniate through it. This needs to be repaired and if necessary a mesh can be put in place to prevent recurrent anterior abdominal wall hernia.
