What Does MR Imagining As Disc Desiccation L1/2 Suggest?
The MR imaging features reveal disc desiccation at L1/2 an L3.S1.Large postero central, para central and lateral disc extrusion at L5/S1 with cranial migration causing significant compression of bilateral neural foramina and underlying L5 nerve root (left more than right). small broad based posterial disc extrusion at L1/2 without significant checal/Sac/farminal compression or neural compromise.Height- 5’10Weight- 81 kgDiabetic patientPain- right as well as left leg.
According to report, you have degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.
1.There are changes of disc desiccation(means loss of water) at L1-2 and L3 level.
2.At L5-S1 level, there is large postero-central,para central and lateral disc herniation causing significant compression of bilateral lateral neural foramen and underlying L5 nerve root (left more than right).
3.At L1-2 level, there is small broad based posterior disc herniation without causing lateral neural canal compromise.
Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first. Surgery should be the last option. There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief.
Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon.
