What Does 'atypical Epithelial Cells' In Fine Needle Aspiration Suggest?
I had a fine needle aspiration and the final diagnosis is that it showed clumps of atypical epithelial cells suspicious for malignacy. It said the the clumps were atypical cells Keratin AE 1/3 positive. Numerous CD 68-postive histiocytes are also present. Please help me understand this.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Presence of aypical epithelial cells in aspiration cytology suggests presence of malignancy. Positivity for keratin AE 1/3 suggests that the atypical cells are of epithelial origin. Thus, malignancy is present in the lesion which is aspirated.
