I am working in Sierra Leone. After being sick for a week blood work indicated I was S. Typhi O positive (1:80 dilution) and S. Typhi H positive (1:160 dilution). I was prescribed ciproflaxin (one 750mg tablet twice daily, for 10 days). Does the treatment seem reasonable given the diagnosis?
Yes dear the given results are suggestive of Salmonella typhi infection that is typhoid. Blood culture and stool culture could have been better as they could have grown the organism and antibiotic susceptibility would have been available. It's important while chosing a antibiotic because resistant strains of salmonella are common now. Otherwise it's fine.
