What Does Fluid In Heart Indicate?

I am 52 years old and in great physical condition due to correct diet and rigorous exercise. I have an echo every two years due to mitral valve prolapse and a hear murmur. It has always been normal. This time the tech said everything looked great and she'd see me in two years. The cardiologist I go to said there was trace fluid this time and was probably just an over read by the radiologist. He wants to repeat it in 6 months. Is this something that happens often?

hello , I have gone through your query. Thanks for using HCM.our heart is covers by two layers of membrane called pericardium ,naturally there is mild degree of fluid in between these two layers dor smooth contraction and relaxation of heart.sometimes on echo observer finds some noticeable fluid not amounting significance.so we advise for follow up assessment to watch for increase in amount of fluid , in which case further work up should be done.
since you have no symptoms as on today you need not worry.
if have fever ,chest pain or shortness of breath then you may go for early follow up otherwise 6 months is okay.
my best wishes
