What Does Increased Afp Indicator Mean In Blood Test?
Three year old child, normal blood test just increase of AFP indicator, biopsy on the liver - normal findings. Other symptoms not marked. Today had temperature and small swalow on the stomach part of the liver. Can you please tell us what this indicate?

AFP is a protein normally synthesized by the fetal yolk sac, liver, and intestine . AFP is a tumor marker used for diagnosing epithelial liver tumors (hepatoblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma) and certain malignant germ cell tumors .
However elevations of serum AFP can be seen in association with certain nonneoplastic conditions, most commonly in acute liver disease, such as hepatitis. All tests for hepatitis markers should be done they may help in reaching the correct diagnosis.Take care!
