What Does Leucoaraiosis- A Combination Of Chronic Ischemic Lesions And Arteriosclerotic Changes Mean?
Can yoy explain the following MRI report in layman language:-
-Old ischemic infarcts in hyperintensity right gangliocapsular location and thalamus
-Focal ischemic gliosis in right frontal lobe
- Confluent areas of hyperintense signal intensity on T2W / FLAIR images in bilateral periventicular white matter , centrum semovale and left frontal white matter, represnting leucoaraiosis- a combination of chronic ischemic lesions and arteriosclerotic changes
Abnormal increased signal intensity on T2 and FLAIR sequences in white matter of brain is due to chronic microvascular ischemic changes resulting from involvement of small blood vessels. Leucoaraiosis and old ischemic infarcts are due to ischemic changes resulting from blood vessels changes in diseases like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia. So,you need monitoring of conditions that leads to ischemic changes like hypertension, altered lipid profile, diabetes mellitus. You need investigations like routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile, ultrasound of abdomen. Hope i have answered your query.
