What Does Lower Caloric Level In An ENG Test Indicate?
I had an ENG on Wednesday and the Doctor called me 30 minutes ago and said that the choloric level was 20% less than it should be and he is ordering an MRI for next week, he said that he wants to make sure there are no growths in my ear or something more serious. I really don't understand
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I believe they must have poured either warm or cool water in your ears in order to report that your CALORIC responses were reduced by "20%", etc. This means that your eye movement response to the water in your ear was not as robust as they would've liked to have seen it. The MRI is to see if any mass lesions are interfering with your vestibular system involving the cranial nerve subserving the sense of hearing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Dariush Saghafi
