Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
PMR stands for polymyalgia.
Polymyalgia rheumatica is an inflammatory disorder that causes
muscle pain and stiffness in various parts of the body. It most commonly affects the shoulders, neck, and arms. A
blood test is usually done to help make the correct diagnosis. No blood test is 100% reliable for PMR.
However, blood tests called the
erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) test and the
C-reactive protein (CRP) test can detect if there is inflammation in your body from various diseases. ESR test results are measured in mm/hr, or millimeters per hour.
The following are considered normal ESR test results:
- Women under age 50 should have an ESR under 20 mm/hr.
- Your ESR is 75 mm/hr highly indicative of an inflammatory condition like polymyalgia.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
