my so is 8months old and has been running a fever of over 101 for four days now.Despite my efforts to alternate tylenol and motrin, the fever will go away for a few hours with the motrin and come right back. This happened a couple of weeks ago i took him to the doctor and they gave him antibiotics and it went away,i don t understand why he keeps getting these fevers that won t go away.

Hi...by what you say I feel that your son is having recurrent viral illness.

I will explain you how a viral illness behaves so that you can be more confident.

Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day.

If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness.

Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
