What Does Suspicion For Possible Proximal Lesion Involving The Sublacvian Artery Mean?
What does suspicion for possible proximal lesion involving the sublacvian artery mean? I also have kidney stenosis (mild) and have had 1left and 2 right carotid endarterectomies. I was told that maybe the dye of the MRA would affect the kidneys and my Dr. is checking this out for me. I am not sure what to think or do about this. What should I do?
The subclavian artery is a vessel supplying blood the the arms. Since you have got endartectomies done in the past, it is possible that you are prone to conditions causing narrowing of blood vessels. Proximal subclavian artery refers to the part of the vessel near its origin. There can be some condition causing lunminal obstruction and reduced blood flow which needs to be studied by doing detailed imaging. I guess you also have renal artery stenosis. MRA or magnetic resonance angiography is done to study the artery along its course and distribution. There are methods in MRA where giving a dye is not required and you can discuss this point with your doctor. This will not cause any problem to your kidneys and at the same time give information on proximal subclavian artery narrowing.
