What Does The MRI Result With Mass Effect On Thecal Sack Mean?
My PCP just called with my MRI results. She said it says central and left central para central lisc protrution L4 and L5. Mass effect on thecal sack. What does this mean? I am in almost constant pain. I go see a neurologist next Monday. Just need to understand these results in layman's terms. Thanks Lisa
According to report, you are suffering from degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.
1.At L4-L5 level, there is central and left central para central disc herniation which is causing mass effect on thecal sac. This is causing your symptoms.
Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first. Surgery should be the last option. There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief.
Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurologist.
