hi,
i just had my echocardio test and all the results were normal except that they say i have a mitral valve "trace regurgitation" and "mild chordae tendineae redundancy"..
are these something to worry about?
by the way, i work out a lot - i do at least 2hrs worth of cardio 6x a week and i have been doin it for more than a year now.. is it possible i developed an athlete's heart? would it explain why i have a BP of 100/40 and still get a normal pressure result?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The echocardiogram shows presence of structural abnormality in the mitral valve and chordae tendinae. Chordae tendinae are filamentous structures which provide an anchor to the mitral valve at one end and left ventricular wall at the other end. Redundacy of chordae tendinae can lead to loosening of mitral valve and hence of regurgitation or leakage at the mitral valve. At this stage the regurgitation is only mild and thus it will not cause clinically evident disease. However, surgical repair of the chordae tendinae is required to prevent the regurgitation which can increase in due course of time and cause clinically evident disease. Consult your cardiologist for further management.
