What Does This MRI Scan Indicate?

MRI results state: There is a normal lumbar lordosis. Vertebral body stature and height are maintained and there is no lishthesis. There is a small focus of increased T2 and T1 signal involving the S2 and L4 segments. These are likely small hemangiomas. The conus medullaris terminated at T12. There is no abnormal cord signal. There is desiccation of the L5/S1 disc, there is a smalll left paracentral disc protrusion with increased T2 and STIR signal consistent with annualar teard. Mild narrowing of the left lateral recesss. Central canal space is ample and the nuerural foramina are patent.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I will explain your MRI findings in detail
1. There is a normal lumbar lordosis. Vertebral body stature and height are maintained and there is no lishthesis.
These are normal findings of the alignment of the backbone.

2. There is a small focus of increased T2 and T1 signal involving the S2 and L4 segments. These are likely small hemangiomas.
This is a normal acceptable appearance and not a concern.

3. The conus medullaris terminated at T12.
The lower most part of spinal cord is normal in position.

4. There is desiccation of the L5/S1 disc, there is a smalll left paracentral disc protrusion with increased T2 and STIR signal consistent with annualar tear. Mild narrowing of the left lateral recesss.
The disc at L 5 - S 1 level shows mild degenerative changes and a very small tear which can cause little pain in your lower back, more on left side.

5. Central canal space is ample and the nuerural foramina are patent.
The covering of spinal canal is normal.
