What Is Citrobacrtro Koseri Infection And Can It Be Treated With Doxcycline?

Just been told I have an infection called citrobacrtro koseri? Started with what seemed like a urinary infection. What is this? Dr. wants to treat with doxcycline. Nervous as I developed C-diff last November from taking Augmentin. Will I get this again from doxycycline?

Yes, Citorbacter koseri is a bacteria that commonly causes urinary tract infection. Your doctor must have prescribed doxycycline based on the bacterial culture and sensitivity test results. It is not necessary that you will get Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea because you take doxycycline.
Diarrhea in general can occur as a complication of antibiotic therapy, and such complications vary from person to person. Not all react to the antibiotic the same way. Also, Clostridium difficile-associate diarrhea is more common after treatment with specific antibiotics like clindamycin, cephalosporins (particularly 3rd generation), penicillins, fluoroquinolones, and proton-pump inhibitors. Augmentin, the drug that you took last November, contains Amoxicillin, for which diarrhea is a prominent adverse effect. Doxycycline is a tetracycline is not known to commonly cause diarrhea. It is advisable to take this drug after food, so as to minimize any chances of gastrointestinal irritation.
Please go ahead and take Doxycycline as prescribed. Hope this helps.
