What Is Meaning Of Mild Based Disc Bulge With Mild Compression In L4-l5?
My brother just had an MRI report stating L4-L5 there is mild based disc bulge with Mild compression on the anterior thecal sac however existing nerve roots are spared and no significant central canal spinal stenosis. He also has mild degenerative changes seen throughout lumbar spine. He is 55 and weighs over 300 lbs and on heavy pain medication. He is also trying for disability from his pension. Any info you could provide would be appreciated.
According to report, your brother has diffuse degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.
1.At L4-L5 level there is mild intervertebral disc bulge with mild compression on the anterior thecal sac but there is no compression on nerve roots and no stenosis in central spinal canal.
Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first as he has early changes. Surgery should be the last option. There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief. He should also try to decrease his weight. Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon.
