Hello. My mother is 58 years old and she has had type 2 diabetes since the past 16 years. In the beginning she was on oral medications but for the last year, her doctor has put her on insulin (Humulin). She is experiencing weight gain because of insulin and therefore is experiencing a lot of pain in her knees and legs. I would like to know if weight gain is a direct cause of use of insulin (Humulin). Is it possible for her to switch to some other form of insulin or to some other alternative? Also, I have heard-of an insulin injection taken once a month, can you please also tell me about that? Thank you very much.
Hello, Welcome to HCM I am Dr Rakesh Sharma answering your query. I can understand your concern. Yes insulin causes weight gain, But that happens with all types of insulin , only preparations are different but their action is the same. If your mother's blood sugar is under control, then her doctor can advice on if to change that single dose will suit her or not. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
