Welcome to healthcare magic for your health concerns
I am Dr Fahim and I will looking into your problem
I have gone through your question and understood your concerns. In
GERD there is dysfunctioning of the lower esophageal sphincter; its tone decreases resulting in reflux of the stomach content which is acidic into
esophagus, pharynx and mouth, resulting in burning sensation in the chest and bitter taste in mouth. You are started with Dexilant 60mg which is a
proton pump inhibitor, it causes decrease in acid secretion of the stomach and continued for 8 weeks. If this medical treatment does not help, then there is role of surgery with operation called hissen fundoplication; strengthening the lower esophageal sphincter to prevent reflux. You also need some life style modifications which are very important in GERD management and often neglected both by patient and physician. These are weight reduction, quit
smoking, avoid excessive caffeine consumption and large meals especially at night, and have modest degree of head up tilt of your bed. I am confident that these precautions will help you, and your GERD will subsided with conservative treatment in matter of weeks. Feel free to ask if you have any further doubts.
Do rate my answer, if you like it.
