Hi, my is Zdenka and i have a 14 yr old son who has sores in his mouth that are now looking like boils and are starting to go down his throat. there is a white / yellow discharge on the sides of his mouth. he is experiencing pain and swollen throat and is complaining of difficulty swallowing. this is his second week of throat problems. he has been on amoxicillen for 1 week had a throat swab after the antibiotic cause it never helped. the swab came back negative for the spectrum of strep. he has a deep hoarse cough also. he has no fever, still has an appetite. please help!!
Hi and thanks for query, Your son may be suffering from viral upper respiratory tract infection. Viral infections do not respond to antibiotics and they run their course. Do not worry, the mouth ulcers willl disappear by themselves . He can take some painkillers and some local anaesthetic gel for the mouth ulcers. Drink plenty of water, do warm salt water gargling, avoid airconditioning and fan.
Regards , Dr Kishori.
