Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has a broken back and spinal cord damage. He has to use a catheter and manually extract his "poop" with a glove and lube. Tonight when he extracted he noticed that it was mucus covered and he said it looks like there is something inside the mucus that looks like tiny bubbles that are moving slightly. What can this be?
Hi. The mucus is a natural thing the colon and rectum discharge as a response to the hard stools. This is usually a nature's defense and helps easy evacuation, unless there is some ulceration or a mass as a primary cause. Dos he not take mild laxatives? If in doubt , it will be better to get the stool tested and a consultation with internal examination by a Surgeon. Occasional use of enema is always a good alternative.
