What Is The Cause For Throbbing Pain In My Knee With Difficculty In Coming Down The Stairs?

Hi

Last weekend I was playing rugby and went in for a tackle, (brought him down like a sack of spuds!) and instantly after experienced throbbing pain in my right knee. My knee swole approx 2 - 3 times the size and I iced and rested it on the sunday. Monday I could walk on it without too much pain or discomfort. Thursday I saw our club physio and he seems to think it may be an ACL strain however he's quite young and I was just looking for a second opinion. As I look at my right knee, the pain in on the inner side, just above my patella, about a fingers width away. I have no pain going UP stairs but coming down and putting weight on it with a bending motion is very unstable. Occasionally I will hear a slight pop or click but this doesn't cause any pain. I can now walk on the knee without any limp. Just wondering if you could shed any light on the situation. I'm wondering if it could be a tendon strain from the thigh muscle as it doesn't feel within the knee joint itself. Appreciate it is difficult to define without seeing but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Dan Laddiman

Mr Laddiman,
your history is very suggestive of ACL injury or a meniscus tear. It is better if you get your MRI done. As far as symptom of ACL tear concerns patient complain of unstable knee and difficulty in walking fast. But two weeks is too early to decide about this things. You should wear knee brace for time being.
