I am a 55 year old male who have a bad cold for five days. After day three my elbow developed acute pain and was inflexible and eventually became swollen. This subsided after two days at which time my feet developed the same intense pain on the sides. What is this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thank you for posting.

Your symptoms make me think you suffer from Arthritis.
Arthritis is caused by the virus that have caused cold, too.
In general Arthritis affects more than one articulation.

You need the following tests to find the diagnosis:
1- Foot X-ray.
2- Complete blood count.
3- ESR test (Erythrocyte sedimentation rate test).
4- Fibrinogen test.
5- Urine test.
6- Rheumatoid factor test (antibody directed against an organism's own tissues)

The treatment contain antibiotic medicines for the cold, and non steroidal anti inflammatory medicines for arthritis.

You should contact your rheumatologist.

I hope you find this helpful.

I wish you a fast and healthy recovery.
Dr. Behar.
