What Is The Cause Of Swelling In The Knees With Acute Pain ?
I am female, aged 55 years. Recently, my knee suddenly developed swelling . I am having acute pain . I cannot bend my leg. The swelling extends onto the thigh as well. I am very sure that there was no injury to the knee which could have triggered this condition. Although I had participated in a function where I had danced for around an hour. But there were no such steps which could have stressed my legs so much as to injure my knees. Please advice. Thanks a lot for your help. Regards,
hi...your problem seems to be due to osteoarthrits which can be realted to your age and exertion...get an X ray of your knee...and give cold compressions to the affected area for 15mins thrice a day after which you can apply any pain killer gel and cover up your knee with a crepe bandage...jus make sure your joint should be mobile after bandaging. start having calcium one tab everyday as it will help in strenghtening of bones...get a bone densitometery scan too to rule out osteoporosis
Hello;
Thanks for your query.
The swelling and pain in absence of injury can be more likely due to gout or osteoarthritis of knee which may have aggravated due to stress caused by dancing.Presently for the pain you can take some over the counter pain killer and consult with a Orthopaedician.
You may need to get a X-ray done to find the reason and even blood tests which the Orthopaedician may advise after proper examination.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Take care.
Regards
You may be in the phase of developing osteoarthritis. Have x rays of both knees done. You can apply cold sponges to both knees daily and observe the relief within a week or so. I hope you are not obese. If yes you have to try to reduce your body weight. ,
Hi,
Sudden painful swelling of the knee indicates inflammation .This may be due to repeated minor trauma which may not give rise to pain during the event but initiated the condition .
Some times acute exacerbation of arthritis results in effusion in synovial joints giving rise to the condition as described by you .
please consult orthopedic surgeon and start treatment . clinical check up and tests are necessary for proper diagnosis and treatment .
Wish your early recovery.
Welcome to HCm.
It could be due to continuous dance at the age of 55 due to sprain.
better go for x-ray knee to rule out the condition and consult orthopedician for better medical management.
You have to take calcium medicine regularly at this age to prevent osteoporosis.
Welcome to HCM.
Your signs and symptoms on first look look to be arised due to your dance activity near before.
