What Is The Cause Of Swollen Epiglottis With Sore Throat ?
my epiglottis is swollen, red in the centre, white at the end. Earlier this evening I felt as if there was something cutting the back of my throat and there was a lot of blood . That has stopped but my throat is sore and the epiglottis swollen as described.
There could be an ulceration over the epiglottis or inflammation of the epiglottis giving rise to this problem. It is wiser to consult your doctor for a complete examination and management. Avoid hot beverages and hard food, consume plenty of warm water.
Dear jeanne Hello I am dr Sharma ENT consultant On th basis of information provided it appears you are suffering from acute epiglottitis or there can be a ulcerative lesion involving throat. I would advise you for a ENT consultation as epiglottitis is a medical emergency and this can lead to difficulty in breathing. I hope this answers your concern. Do let me know if you have any more concern with regards Ravinder Sharma
But I am still surprised that how could you saw your epiglottis because it is far behind of tongue and below it so difficult to see on mirror. It could be uvula instead.
Anyway you can take a broad spectrum antibiotic and antiinflammatory drugs for 3 days .
If no relief see an ENT surgeon for further clinical examination and investigation.
Regards.
